Holidays to Tenerife
One of the most popular places for a vacation is the lovely Canary Islands, and taking holidays to Tenerife is a great option if you want to relax and unwind. There are seven spectacular islands that constitute the Canary Islands, and Tenerife is the largest of these islands, and certainly the most popular.
There are plenty of things to do on this incredible island and one of its most popular activities is the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This has been known as one of the most spectacular festivals in the entire world, and millions from all over the planet converge on Tenerife during the Carnival. In fact, it’s the second largest one after Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. When taking holidays to Tenerife, this parade is one of the most exciting and the party begins on the Friday before Ash Wednesday and continues without stopping the entire six days – and nights. The “entierro de la sardine” is the highlight of the event, and the next weekend the party starts again with the “piñata”. The Official Carnival has more than fifty components and the Carnival in the Street has thousands of people marching in the parade – all with wonderful costumes and disguises.
Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife and is home to some excellent architecture, such as that found in the Auditorio de Tenerife and is one of the most interesting sites architecturally in the city. It has a regal profile and has become one of the most well known symbols in the city for its great architecture. Another great site you need to see if you take your holidays to Tenerife is the Plaza de Espana which is the beautiful square located in the middle of Santa Cruz, and it houses a stunning artificial lake and is also surrounded by the monument that is a tribute to the fallen soldiers from the Spanish Civil War.
Another tradition of this area is the pilgrimages and the annual “our Lady of Candelaria” is performed at Socorro Beach, which honors and celebrates their patron saint, the Virgin of Candelaria. The parade has numerous local dancers and the celebration features some of the great foods of the area, in addition to arts and crafts, stories and folklore of the islands. This celebration is held in February and August.
Another great reason to take the family holidays to Tenerife is the great shopping. Many travelers are very interested in the arts and crafts of the area, and this island boasts some of the most intricate embroidery, rosettes, and doilies that are found anywhere. Their table linens are some of the most beautiful found, and many are finished with illustrations from the surrounding area, and are some of the most distinct designs.
Once travelers have found some of the exciting festivals and events on the island, there are some great places to stay as well, that include a number of resorts and great hotels. For travelers taking their holidays to Tenerife there is the Playa de las Americas which is an incredible resort in the northern part of the island. It features some vibrant restaurants, a nightclub, and several bars, plus it’s close to some exceptional beaches and other local attractions. The rooms are excellent and are reasonably priced.
One of the most lively areas on the island is the Veronicas Strip that host numerous nightclubs and bars, and is known as one of the most energetic and rowdy areas in town. But for those travelers who want a little more low-key entertainment, the City Park of Arona is a beautiful park that is great for family picnics and has some great playgrounds for the little kids and a perfect destination when planning the holidays to Tenerife.
Since Tenerife is in the Atlantic Ocean near the northern African coast, the weather in Tenerife is wonderful year around. There are some exceptional beaches on the island, and some with sand that has been imported from Africa. For sightseeing, there are numerous monuments, amazing archaeological sites, and the truly incredible Cave Achbinico, and the Pyramids of Güímar, that are of the style of the Steppe Pyramid of Djoser in Egypt. For travelers looking for a unique place for a vacation, taking holidays to Tenerife is an excellent choice for a destination.
