Weather in Tenerife
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and the weather in Tenerife is some of the best in the world. It’s located somewhat north of the Tropic of Cancer just off the western coastline of northern Africa. There are seven major islands that constitute the Canary Islands and Tenerife is the largest of these islands. The weather in Tenerife is quite different from the northern side of the island that is cooler than the sunny, warn southern coastline. Most years are consistent with lots of sunshine and warm balmy temperatures.
The weather in Tenerife’s Northern half of this beautiful Canary Island is much more lush, with consistently more rain in the winter, and typically cooler temperatures. The average temperatures in the wintertime are generally in the mid 60s with an average humidity of 61 percent. Even though the averages are cooler, even in the summer, the average high is 77°F with a mild 64% humidity.
Generally, the weather in Tenerife’s Southern part of Tenerife is somewhat warmer throughout the year, and the summer months typically find an average temperature of 79°F, while the winter month’s average in the low 70s and it’s generally much drier than its northern counterpart. In most cases the sun shines year around on this beautiful island, and because of these mild temperatures, it was even nicknamed the “Island of Eternal Spring”.
One of the great things about the island’s weather is that when one tires of the warmer weather in the south, all they have to do is take a drive to the northern side of the island to enjoy the cooler, more moist temperatures, and vice versa. Those who are tired of the cooler temperatures, and more lush scenery, can travel to the southernmost part of the island to enjoy the much warmer sunny days, and drier, more arid climate.
It’s also unusual for constant rain on the island, but it is more prevalent from November to March, and generally March is the time that the inhabitants of the island see the most rainfall. Generally, weather in Tenerife during the summer months through July is quite the opposite with little to no rain. But just because this is a tropical island, Mount Teide actually has snow on its highest peaks and it also shelters the southern side of the island from the worst rain showers.
Like many of the tropical islands, the wonderful trade winds are quite refreshing and pleasant, and are consistently present on Tenerife. These mild winds always bring somewhat cooler temperatures and help maintain the more delightful climate. This is perfect for those who enjoy the beautiful beaches, as well as boating around the islands, and diving off the incredible coral reefs.
The weather in Tenerife is generally consistent throughout the year, with mild temperatures throughout the island, but warmer in the southern parts. Rainfall is minimal, and the refreshing trade winds always make the temperatures comfortable. This wonderful island’s weather is perfect for those vacationers desiring a great climate and natural surroundings.
